Men’s lax raises $30,000 for Boston Children’s Hospital

The Connecticut College men’s lacrosse program raised $30,000 for the Boston Children's Hospital through the Lacrosse for Life initiative over the weekend.

A group of 30 players and coaches shaved their heads to support the worthy cause and raise funds to help young patients and their families at the No. 1 pediatric research hospital in the world. The Camels are among more than 60 programs across all three NCAA divisions participating this year.

“It was an easy way for us to support an awesome cause as well as people who do amazing things,” said interim head coach Jim Nagle. “It always feels good to do something for someone else. When you do it collectively, it is all the more powerful.”

Lacrosse for Life invited lacrosse teams across the country to show their support for kids and families who rely on the lifesaving care and research provided by Boston Children’s Hospital, and lined up anonymous donors to donate $1,000 for each participant who shaved his or her head (women also had the option of donating eight inches of hair to charity) on March 1.

The Camel men participated in the fundraiser after winning their season opener at home, besting Roger Williams 18-12. Jack Rutter ’20 and Sean Smith ’20 each netted five goals in the victory, while rookie Gus Mazzocca ’23 scored his first collegiate goal. The team will next head to Middlebury to take on the Panthers Saturday, March 7.
