Olivia Haskell ’19 wins 100-yard freestyle at NESCAC Championships

Senior swimmer Olivia Haskell won the 100-yard freestyle and was part of a school record-breaking relay team as the Connecticut College women's swimming and diving team finished fifth at the NESCAC Championships on Feb. 17.

Haskell posted a time of 51.15 to win the 100-yard freestyle, earning All-NESCAC honors and provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Championships. She also teamed with Maddie Ford ’21, Kenzie Healy ’21 and Vaughn Ammon ’22 to finish second in the 400 freestyle relay in a school-record time of 3:26.95, which also provisionally qualifies for the NCAA Championships.  

The Camels dominated the sprint freestyle events, racking up 208 points. In addition to Haskell, Ford and Ammon also scored in the 100 free. Ford recorded an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 51.59 to finish fifth, while Ammon was 11th with a time of 52.16. Andrea Higgins ’21 also provisionally qualified for the NCAAs with a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard fly.

Conn finished fifth overall with 932.5 total points, ahead of Wesleyan, Bowdoin, Middlebury, Colby, Trinity and Hamilton. Seven members of the team—Haskell, Ford, Healy, Ammon, Higgins, Danielle Fergus ’19 and Maeve Wilber ’19—earned All-NESCAC honors.

The Camels will next compete at a NESCAC Invitational at Middlebury on Sunday, Feb. 24. The men’s swimming and diving team will compete at the NESCAC Championships at Middlebury Feb. 21-24.
