Classroom Assignments

Initial classroom assignments for each semester are made by the Office of the Registrar, typically before the end of the previous semester. Faculty may request specific classrooms or state setup or equipment needs when their department submits its final course schedule. The office takes these requests into account, but priority is always given to accessibility needs and class size. Room assignments can be seen on the class schedule.

Requests to schedule a course in department-controlled space (such as studios or labs) should first be directed to the department chair. Requests to schedule a course in one of the computer labs in Shain Library will be considered by the library if the course requires use of unique hardware and software available in the labs; requests must first be made through the Office of the Registrar.

It may not be possible to assign a class to the room requested. The most common reasons for this are:

  • Accessibility accommodations for students or faculty - Classes that must be in accessible rooms are given priority for those rooms.
  • Popular Time Block - Classes being held during the busiest teaching times will likely not be able to be assigned to their preferred rooms.
  • Class size - Classes must be in rooms with stated capacities equal to or greater than the number of registered students.
  • Back to back scheduling - Every effort is made to keep instructors who teach back to back in the same building.
  • Room set up or equipment - Classes may be assigned to rooms with the preferred setup or equipment needed, even if the rooms were not requested.
Please Note: Faculty must not exceed the room capacity of the assigned room when allowing students to register from a waitlist.

Classroom Changes

Change Requests: Requests to change classrooms may be made to the Office of the Registrar by using the Room Change Request form available on the Forms for Faculty site.

  • This form is only available for one month prior to the start of the semester and through the end of the Limited Add period.
  • At all other times, requests may be emailed to curriculum@conncoll.edu.
  • Every effort will be made to find a more suitable room for the class, but not all requests will be able to be fulfilled

Administrative Changes: Occasionally, a class may need to be moved during the semester due to unforeseen circumstances. These circumstances may include: a new accessibility need either in that class or in another class that must be moved into the room, a change in the number of registered students, or a new issue with the assigned room.

  • In these cases, the Office of the Registrar will make the necessary room changes and inform all affected instructors as soon as possible. Instructors should inform the students in their class.

Room Information Posters

Every General Inventory classroom contains a poster (typically located near the door) indicating the capacity and specific configuration design for each room, as well as important contacts. Users of the room should return it to the configuration indicated after each use. Chairs must not be removed from classrooms for any reason.
